How often does a septic tank need to be pumped out (before there is a problem)?

I have a feeling that this question is going to attract many crude responses, but I really would like to know the answer.

Answers:

1as long as it is working properly only once every year. It also depends on some factors, how big is the field, how many people live at the house, what the perc. of the ground is, etc. also, when it is pumped down you DO NOT haveto use any startup enzymes or anything else to get it working properly again. there are enough left over after pumping to get it working again.
